Bureau of Trade Analysis

BTA works to ensure ocean common carrier and marine terminal operator compliance under the standards of the Shipping Act of 1984. The Bureau processes common carrier tariff registrations, reviews carrier published tariffs and marine terminal operator schedules, and ensures compliance with 46 CFR Parts 520, 525, 530, 531, and 532. The Bureau is also responsible for reviewing agreements and competition oversight under the standards of 46 USC Chapter 403. Accordingly, BTA administers monitoring programs and other research efforts designed to inform the Commission of conditions related to international trade, carrier and terminal operations, and maritime supply chain concerns.
